Coming up NXT: Carnival, cars and creativity on tap in the Tri-State

Nine-day carnival kicks off Friday

The Mont Alto Volunteer Firemen’s Carnival will begin on Friday, June 14 and run through Saturday, June 22, at the Mont Alto Fire Co. Events Complex, Mont Alto, Pa.

Kitchen opens each night at 5:30 p.m. and there are games and amusement rides for children.

Fireworks are set for Friday, June 21, with a raindate of Saturday, June 22.

There is live entertainment each night beginning at 7:30 p.m. The schedule includes — Friday, June 14: Chasin Moody; Saturday, June 15: Countdown Band; Sunday, June 16: Dean Crawford and the Dunns River Band; Monday, June 17: Luke Lucas Band; Tuesday, June 18: Amish Outlaws; Wednesday, June 19: Power Co. DJ/Karaoke; Thursday, June 20: Reagan Years; Friday, June 21: Out of Line; Saturday, June 22: Chris Woodward and Shindiggin.

Farmers market, car show on tap for Saturday

WAYNESBORO, Pa. – With a promising weather forecast, lots of great vendors and a wide-open Main Street, the ingredients are in place for a fun day on Saturday, June 15, in downtown Waynesboro, Pa.

The fourth Saturday of the popular Market at the Park will get things started with Mainstreet Waynesboro Inc.’s Father’s Day Weekend Car and Truck Show.

The Market at the Park will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Main Street Park, 25 E. Main St. So far, the market has averaged between 800 and 1,100 visitors and more than 20 vendors since it opened on May 25.

Popular vendors such as Dawn and Dusk Donuts, Sweet Rose’s Soaps, Bender’s Brew, Josh’s Popcorn, Harvest Hills, Grace’s Family Farms, Frantz Produce, Laura’s Flowers, Rockview Greenhouse, Janzell Wines, Rose & Ivy and Curly Greens Farm will be at the market on Saturday. Several newer vendors who are scheduled to attend the market on Saturday include Cotton Candy Creations, Brenda’s Sew Creative, Leave the Cooking to Me and Fantastical Variety.

Singer Ryan Mayersky will return to the market on Saturday morning to perform at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The annual car and truck show begins at 9 a.m. and closes with the trophy presentation at 3 p.m. Buchanan Automotive and its family of dealerships are the lead sponsor for the show.

Registration is taken on-site only through the show organizers, the Appalachian Golden Classics Club of Waynesboro. Registration will be in the patio area next to M&T Bank on the square.

The entry fee is $12. Awards will be presented in several categories, including Best of Show Car, Best of Show Truck, Mayor’s Choice, Father’s Choice. Trophies will be awarded to the top 30 votegetters and dash plaques will be presented to the first 100 registrants.

Martinsburg Art Festival to make debut

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The first-ever Martinsburg Art Festival will take place on Saturday, June 15, from 1 to 5 p.m., at Martinsburg Town Square.

The festival will include more than 25 adult and youth artist tables, two food vendors, face painting, live demonstrations, hands on activities for kids and families, yoga performances and demonstrations, live art demonstrations, sidewalk chalk art, music and a car that will be decorated with sharpie markers. The local businesses will also be hosting a downtown gallery walk where businesses will be hosting local artist’s art in their shops.

ACT presents Storytelling in Washington County parks and libraries

Authentic Community Theatre, Inc. will be presenting free performances throughout Washington County’s parks and libraries this summer. The Storytelling in the Parks and Library storytelling programs are being presented through The Nora Roberts Foundation and will bring live interactive performances to various locations during the months of June and July.

ACT exists to both explore and encourage the application of the performing arts as a catalyst toward responsible social change and enhanced community cohesion.
