Dress up the dog and hit the streets of Hagerstown for Howl-O-Ween
Splurging on that cute dog costume in the store might actually pay off this year.
The 7th annual Howl-O-Ween Dog Costume Parade presented by the Animal Health Clinic of Funkstown will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, at Fairgrounds Park on North Cleveland Avenue in Hagerstown.
“It’s a great way for owners to celebrate the dogs that they love,” said Amy Riley, recreation coordinator for The City of Hagerstown Parks and Recreation. “People go all out for this event.”
The City of Hagerstown, as well as What’s NXT, help run the event, which includes various prizes for the best-dressed pup.
Categories to enter include “Best Friends” for kids under 12, “Do-it-yourself” costume for those who are crafty, “Doggie Diva” for those sassy pups, “GQ” for the males dogs, “Most Appetizing” for the foodies, “Celebri’dog” for those who follow the stars, “Pet Look-a-like” for those who look like or like to dress like their dog, and “Spookiest” for those looking to scare the competition.
“It’s an adorable and fun community event that we get great participation in because people love their pets and get to walk the red carpet and show off some pretty amazing Halloween costumes,” Riley said.
Online registration is $10 through Friday, Oct. 25, and $15 onsite from 10 to 11 a.m. on the day of the event.
The first 100 pre-registered competitors receive a doggie goodie bag.
When signing up, owners are asked to say a fun fact about their pet that will then be read aloud when they’re walking the red carpet in front of the judges.
During the event, there will be vendors, giveaways and tricks and treats.
“Everyone loves their dogs and it’s a great way to celebrate Halloween with your pet,” Riley said.
