Hagerstown Community College Hawk Booster Club member Markeith Price, 26, of Hagerstown, is visually impaired and will compete in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
After a successful performance in June at the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials in Charlotte, N.C., Price earned a spot on Team USA to compete in the track and field events during the 2016 Paralympic Games held in September. He will be competing in the 100m and 400m track and field events.
Price joined the HCC Hawk Booster Club in February 2016 at a Hawk Trainer membership level. Leading up to the trials, Price had been training at HCC’s Fitness Center.
“The HCC Hawk Booster Club has allowed me to get all of my training done in one place from the outdoor and indoor track, as well as the weight room,” said Price. “It also allowed me to interact with the students and members of the community.”
The 2016 games will not be Price’s first visit to the Paralympics. During the 2012 Paralympics games, he placed sixth in the long jump and eighth in the 400m for Team USA.
