Maryland Iron Festival at Catoctin Furnace
Celebrate Mountains, Metal and Malt at the Maryland Iron Festival, Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The festival, celebrated in Catoctin Furnace historic village, Catoctin Mountain Park, and Cunningham Falls State Park, commemorates the state as a center for the craft of iron making. Admission is free to the festival.
Enjoy tours of the Charcoal Trail at Catoctin Mountain Park, hands-on casting and molding activity with National Park Service rangers from Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, Plein Air Artists, blacksmithing demonstrations, craftspeople, feats of strength contests and much more.
The festival opens with an opening event Friday, May 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thurmont Regional Library, featuring food, music, displays, re-enactors and a presentation about the exciting DNA and forensic facial reconstruction research underway at Catoctin Furnace.
